  1. Context/Background:

The financial recession post-2008 had a negative impact on many sectors across Europe. Nevertheless, this was not the case in the tourism sector which during those hardships was the main backbone of the economy in several European countries in the South and the Mediterranean. That, however, changed during the Covid-19 pandemic when unemployment became a serious issue, especially in the tourism sector.

PREPARE, therefore, will work to raise awareness about the issues that the tourism sector faces while at the same time offering innovative capacity-building workshops for people both entering and currently in the workforce. Ultimately, the project will focus on helping the tourism sector improve its services and increase its resilience to the frequent global challenges.

  1. Objectives

Main objective of PREPARE is to raise understanding about climate change and its influence on the tourism sector by promoting green skills and tourism as a profession of the future.

PREPARE also aims to promote the wider EU agenda focused on sustainability as well as to increase the employability of young people by increasing their green skills and competences. The project strives to improve services offered by tourism workers and municipal employees, as well as to build synergy between different stakeholders on national and transnational level.

  1. Activates / Results

The project will produce:

– Training program on environmental protection and link to tourism

– Training program on capacity building and change management at workplace targeting green skills

– Learning platform with variety of learning materials

– Policy recommendations and case studies

–  Online training program.

  1. Impact:

Trained representatives of municipalities collaborate with local NGOs and experts to further support/develop “green professions”, business owners improve their services and resilience to global change, young graduates gain relevant experience and “green” employment.
