Project: Performance Artists Take The Streets (PATS)
Field: Youth
Project Reference: 2025-1-AT01-KA220-YOU-000351976

The Performance Artists Take The Streets (PATS) project aims to create opportunities for young artists to express their creativity and convey powerful environmental and social messages through artistic performances in public spaces. The project encourages young people and youth workers to use art as a means of civic engagement, activism, and raising awareness of ecological and social challenges.

Through educational activities, practical performances, and international cooperation, participants will develop knowledge and skills in artistic activism, gain experience in creating public performances, and contribute to positive social change within their communities.

Objectives

The PATS project seeks to:

  • Create opportunities for young artists to showcase their creativity and communicate environmental and social messages.
  • Equip young artists and youth workers with the skills to use performance art as a tool for activism and civic participation.
  • Increase the visibility and impact of public performances as a means of raising awareness on pressing ecological and social issues.
  • Foster collaboration among youth organizations, municipalities, and cultural institutions to promote art for social change.

Implementation

To achieve these goals, PATS will implement a series of innovative activities:

  • Online Educational Platform – offering open access to training materials, resources, and best practices on artistic activism and advocacy through performance art.
  • Performance Art Course – combining theoretical and practical content to prepare young artists for creative activism.
  • International Training (LTT) – bringing together young artists and youth workers for capacity-building working on performance activism.
  • Public Street Performances – 25 artistic performances across five European countries, designed to spark dialogue and community engagement.
  • Art Exhibitions and a Documentary Series – showcasing the impact of young artists and their role in driving community awareness and social transformation.

Expected Results

  • Involvement of at least 75 young artists and 25 youth organizations, building their skills, knowledge, and confidence to use performance art for activism.
  • Implementation of 25 artistic performances reaching over 25,000 citizens across Europe.
  • Produced a comprehensive educational package including courses, materials, and resources for youth workers and artists.
  • Strengthened networks among artists, youth NGOs , and cultural institutions to continue promoting sustainability and inclusion through art.

Social Impact and Relevance

The project addresses some of the pressing challenges facing youth today – including high youth unemployment rates, limited platforms for creative expression, and declining cultural participation.

PATS directly tackles these issues by:

  • Enhancing young people’s confidence, employment, and social inclusion through performance art.
  • Empower marginalized and rural youth to take part in meaningful creative activities that promote environmental awareness and civic engagement.
  • Equipping youth workers with tools to integrate performance-based learning and activism into their programs.
  • Providing young artists with public performance opportunities, networking skills, and professional recognition.

Project Partners

Funded under the Erasmus+ Programme, (Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union), PATS brings together organizations from five European countries — Austria, Serbia, Portugal, Greece, and North Macedonia — to explore how art can serve as a catalyst for civic engagement and sustainability. Through educational activities, artistic performances, and international cooperation, the project promotes artistic activism as a form of youth empowerment and social inclusion.

Looking Ahead

By combining art and activism, the Performance Artists Take The Streets (PATS) project aims to nurture a new generation of creative and socially engaged young leaders. Through its cross-border collaboration and artistic initiatives, PATS will amplify youth voices, who use art as a tool to promote and strengthen civic participation, and inspire communities to take collective action for a more sustainable, inclusive, and aware Europe.
