About the Project
PULSE – PLASTIC (Platform for Local Action on Sustainability, Training, Innovation & Creativity) is an Erasmus+ youth project that empowers young people aged 15–20 to transform environmental concerns into practical local action. By combining low-tech plastic recycling, non-formal education and youth participation, the project promotes a hands-on approach to sustainability through its innovative Learn–Create–Act methodology.
Through Youth Eco-Labs, young people will explore plastic waste, recycling and sustainable practices through practical activities. Building on their knowledge and creativity, they will develop and lead local environmental awareness actions and public showcases, encouraging their communities to take a more active role in addressing plastic pollution.
The project also aims to strengthen the capacities of youth workers by developing and testing a practical, transferable Toolkit for Low-Tech Plastic Recycling. Particular attention will be given to inclusion and meaningful participation, ensuring that young people with fewer opportunities can actively contribute to environmental initiatives and community life.
Objectives
The project aims to:
- Strengthen the environmental awareness and green competences of at least 75 young people through practical Youth Eco-Labs focused on plastic recycling.
- Promote civic engagement and youth participation by supporting young people in designing and leading local awareness actions and public showcases.
- Improve the quality and innovation of youth work through the development and testing of a practical Toolkit for Low-Tech Plastic Recycling.
- Ensure inclusive participation, with at least 40% of participants being young people with fewer opportunities, including those from rural areas, low-income backgrounds and migrant communities.
- Connect environmental education with active citizenship, empowering young people to turn environmental concerns into meaningful local action.
Expected Results
PULSE is expected to deliver the following results:
- A tested and transferable Learn–Create–Act methodology for youth work.
- A 50-page PLASTIC Toolkit available in English and three translated versions.
- Ten practical low-tech plastic recycling guides and eight adaptable workshop formats for youth work.
- At least 75 young people aged 15–20 engaged in Youth Eco-Labs across North Macedonia, Greece and Portugal.
- At least 40% participation of young people with fewer opportunities.
- Increased environmental awareness, eco-literacy, initiative and civic confidence among participating young people.
- Youth-led environmental awareness actions and public showcases implemented in all three participating countries.
- Strengthened competences among youth workers in sustainability, inclusive facilitation and participatory non-formal education.
- Stronger cooperation between youth organisations, schools, municipalities and local communities.
Project Impact
By combining practical recycling activities with creativity, collaboration and civic participation, PULSE aims to make environmental education more accessible, engaging and action-oriented. The project will support young people in becoming active contributors to more sustainable communities while equipping youth workers with practical resources that can be adapted and used beyond the project period.
The open-access PLASTIC Toolkit will enable other youth organisations to replicate the methodology, extend its reach and continue promoting environmental awareness, inclusive participation and youth-led action across Europe.
